The word “ninja” is so famous that it is well known even overseas. I’m sure that many of our readers are very familiar with the movie Naruto. Ninjas were around in the Sengoku period in Japan and were specially hired for their ninja stealth and combat techniques, working as spies that were not to be seen on the political playground. Having had this kind of background, ninjas are considered by the Japanese to be characters that only really exist in stories.
With the life of ninjas being concealed behind such a veil, do you think you’d like to visit a restaurant in Japan that centres around all things ninja? Well in fact, such a restaurant actually exists! And the name of that restaurant is Ninja Akasaka!
Today, reporters Kumiko Funayama, Ai Matsumoto and Hikari Shiina stopped by at Ninja Akasaka to check it out.
Upon their arrival, they were faced with an exterior of what looked like a real-life ninja house! At the entrance of a small door, there hung a noren (Japanese sign curtain).
After stepping into the room, they found themselves surrounded in complete darkness, leaving them without the slightest clue as to what they were getting themselves into. With their hearts beating wildly in suspense, our girls continued along the narrow corridor. They then entered a room that looked like a cave carved out of rock.
They were then greeted by a staff member dressed as a ninja, holding a menu. The menu was in the form of a scroll, and the staff produced a very well-acted performance.
The menu was filled with eccentrically unique items. And not only were the flavours unique, but they even came in the form of unique gadgets. Among the many items in the menu, the one that our girls were most curious to try was the appetiser that went by the name “Zuwaigani to gureipufruutsu no suihei battou kiri komo no jutsu” (literally translated to English as the “Snow crab and grapefruit horizontally drawn sword concealed in mist technique” – quite a mouthful of a name!).
Just as the ninja was taking out the sword from the grapefruit to serve their meal, suddenly smoke started coming out! Hikari was very curious as to what kind of technique the ninja used to produce that smoke!
Not only were the performances brilliant, but so was the taste of the girls’ meals, and the girls continued to eat with content.
At the end of their visit, our girls took a photo with the ninja who served them, named Kurama! This pose has “ninja” written all over it, that’s for sure!
Our girls were desperate to see some acrobatic ninja poses, and with that they begged Kurama to show them one!
And here it was. The girls were dumbfounded.
This restaurant is overflowing with entertainment to be had with delicious food and surprises from ninjas. The restaurant is very popular with visitors from outside of Japan too, so if you are ever in the country, please stop by and check it out!
