“Twin Star Exorcists” Greenlit for 2016 TV Anime; Production by Studio Pierrot

A TV anime adaptation has been greenlit for Twin Star Exorcists currently serialized in the monthly manga magazine Jump SQ (Shueisha). A teaser visual was posted and the anime announced on Dec. 4. It has also been revealed that Studio Pierrot is producing the anime and that Wagakki Band has been chosen for the theme song.

Yoshiaki Sukeno began serializing Twin Star Exorcists in Jump SQ in December 2013. The series is set in a strange world called Magano where monsters called Kegaru exist and follows exorcists on their journey to purify Kegaru from the world. Main character Rokuro Enmado is an exorcist apprentice who is informed one day that he is a “Twin Star Exorcist” along with an exorcist girl named Benio Adashino. “Twin Star Exorcists” is a title given to the strongest exorcist couple, whose child, it is said, will bring about the end of Magano. Their awkward lives together begin as they throw themselves headlong into battle…

Studio Pierrot, which is producing the anime, is well known the world over for their work on Naruto Shippuden, Tokyo Ghoul, and others. Wagakki Band, the artists in charge of the theme song, play a fusion of rock with Japanese instruments including shakuhachi, Japanese drums, shamisen. It’s not a stretch to say they present a new take on Japanese culture. Studio Pierrot and Wagakki Band are bringing this popular manga to life. It’s safe to say this is a big project with not just Japan in mind but the world.

The newest information on the anime will likely be found at the event Jump Festa 2016 being held on Dec. 19 and 20 at Makuhari Messe. The anime will be a large feature of the Avex Pictures booth. A trampoline attraction will also be set up, and original stickers and large shopping bags are planned to be handed out too. Further details including broadcast information have yet to be revealed, and the as of yet unannounced staff and cast are curious points as well. Keep it here for more information to come.
