On Jan. 23, the grand opening was held for a new event focused on anime, manga, and games called Universal Cool Japan at the theme park Universal Studios Japan in Osaka. The event will run from Jan. 23 to May 10.
The event consists of attractions to experience the worlds of four major franchises: Evangelion, Attack on Titan, Biohazard (Resident Evil), and Monster Hunter. In addition to the world’s first 4D Evangelion attraction, each area has eye-grabbing sights including life-size Titans and a Zinogre.
Ahead of the event’s opening, an opening ceremony was held on the 22 by the event’s producer with several thousand specially invited guests in attendance. Musician HYDE, an official supporter of the event, also brought excitement to the ceremony.
HYDE, who experienced all of the event’s attractions beforehand, said, “There’s no harm in even more guests [at USJ], right?”, and, touching on the attention from overseas that the event saw with 36 media outlets from 11 countries, commented, “It is considerably difficult for Japanese to bring to the world the good parts of Japan, especially music. Because of those who have tried hard, many people have an interest in the game and anime cultures, so I hope everyone enjoys this opportunity to the fullest.”
