The TV anime One Week Friends broadcast from April to June 2014 and became popular for its heart-wrenching story. On Sept. 28, a special event for the series was held at which the main cast appeared on stage together including Yoshitaka Yamaya and Sora Amamiya.
Nearly 800 fans crowded in to see the event for both its daytime and night viewings. Each viewing was packed, a testament to the popularity of One Week Friends even after the end of its broadcast. For the daytime viewing, the curtains opened to artist Natsumi Kon singing the opening theme, “Niji no Kakera.” She sang the lighthearted theme song with a clear voice that captivated the crowd.
After that, a school set was arranged including school desks and a teachers desk, and with the chime of a bell Junji Majima appeared playing Mr. Inoue. As he took role, Yoshitaka Yamaya playing Yuuki Hase, Sora Amamiya playing Kaori Fujimiya, Yoshimasa Hosoya playing Shogo Kiryu, Rumi Okubo playing Saki Yamagishi, Shintaro Asanuma playing Hajime Kujo, and Mai Nakahara playing Kaori’s mom, Shiho Fujimiya, all appeared on stage to warm cheers from the crowd.
First up was a discussion segment looking back at the anime’s memorable scenes. Pictures from many famous scenes were shown as they talked about their memories and looked back on the series. The variety segment was a card game themed after it being lunchtime at school. The cast was broken into a male team and female team, and a white-hot battle unfolded. As punishment for losing, Yamaya was made to wear pince-nez glasses and talk in a Kansai dialect. It was a segment of continuous laughs.
Continuing on, Yamaya, Amamiya, Hosoya, Okubo, and Asanuma performed a live reading. They fully performed as their characters having fun at an amusement park during spring break. Being that the story took place after the anime, it was greeted by huge applause from the crowd.
During the live segment, Amamiya sang the ending theme “Kanade” for the first time in front of fans. Even though she was nervous, she sang softly with a clear voice that captivated the entire venue.
For the finale, all the performers lined up on stage and gave a message of thanks to the crowd. This event that included a discussion, live reading, and concert ended as a huge success.
