HisCoool! Sega Hard Girl to Broadcast on Animax - Dreamcast, Saturn, and Mega Drive Become Beautiful Girls

A TV anime is advancing for a project by Sega called “Sega Hard Girl” in which hardware is personified. HisCoool! Sega Hard Girl will begin broadcasting on the anime-only channel Animax on Oct. 8.

The anime will be available to subscribers every Wednesday at 22:00 and late night at 27:00, and it will broadcast for free every Saturday at 23:30 on Animax. It is also planned to be distributed by Niconico Channel, GyaO!, and dAnime Store.

The fun premise behind HisCoool! Sega Hard Girl is that each of the home consoles that Sega released successively in the ‘90s has become personified as a cute girl. The anime has a lineup of nostalgic names for old-school gamers including Dreamcast, Sega Saturn, and Mega Drive.

In charge of the characters is KEI who is well known for designing Hatsune Miku and other characters. Each of the characters is wearing an outfit and accessories themed after the designs of the game console they are based on. Even their personalities reflect the hardware’s abilities and peculiarities.

The anime is set at the Sehagaga Academy which is close to Haneda in Tokyo and has a huge torii. Dreamcast, Sega Saturn, and Mega Drive enter the school and are given a challenge by a questionable teacher in order to obtain credits to graduate. That challenge is that they must enter Sega game worlds and clear them. A highlight will be seeing whether they will be able to graduate. There is no doubt that this anime will have Sega fans unconsciously grinning from ear to ear. Producing the anime is TMS Entertainment along with a subsidiary of the company, Jinnis, which creates CG. Sota Sugahara is the director and series composer and Masayuki Kibe is the writer.

Another development for this anime has also already been decided on. A mini live event with the cast of HisCoool! Sega Hard Girl will be held on Oct. 12 at TMS Fes.

Blu-rays and DVDs will also be released. All three volumes will release respectively on Dec. 2, Jan. 6, 2015, and Feb. 3, 2015. Each volume of the Blu-ray, which comes with audio commentary, a making-of the animation, a booklet, and other bonuses, will cost 5,980 yen. The moderately priced DVD volumes will cost 1,980 yen each (Both prices exclude tax.).
