A movie adaptation has been greenlit for the light novel Date A Live by Koshi Tachibana that is currently published by Fujimi Fantasia Bunko (Kadokawa/Fujimi Shobo). This was announced during the June 13 broadcast of the final episode of the TV anime Date A Live II. The conclusion to Season 2 came after just 10 episodes, which is slightly less than regular TV anime. This unbelievable movie adaptation is sure to be a happy surprise for fans.
The light novel Date A Live is authored by Koshi Tachibana and illustrated by Tsunako. This boy-meets-girl story of main character Shido Itsuka and girls called “Spirits” who possess enough power to destroy the world boasts huge popularity. It began being published in 2011. It was adapted into an anime in 2013 in celebration of Fujimi Shobo’s 40th anniversary. The second season of the TV anime, Date A Live II. began in April of this year.
The varied cast that includes Nobunaga Shimazaki as main character Shido Itsuka and Marina Inoue as heroine Tohka Yatogami has also picked up attention, and Season 2 saw the addition of Minori Chihara and Shizuka Ito as well. This popular and talented voice cast brings excitement to the work.
In charge of the opening theme for Seasons 1 and 2 is the four-person female unit Sweet ARMS. Each of the members––Iori Nomizu, Misuzu Togashi, Kaori Sadohara, and Misato––are also on the cast, and their gorgeous theme songs are big highlights.
Much of the cast are also in charge of the ending theme and background music, and the first music event for the series, “Date A Music,” will be held on July 27. Along with the movie, it seems like this will create a huge stir.
At this time, the title of the movie, story, and when it will release are still shrouded in mystery. Look forward to a follow-up report.
