Ghibli Best Stories - Best-of Album Focusing on Joe Hisaishi’s Music from Ghibli Movies Releases

Ghibli Best Stories, a collection of composer Joe Hisaishi’s music from Ghibli films, was released by Universal Sigma on March 12. This is the first best-of Ghibli album dedicated to Hisaishi, and it includes famous songs essential for any Ghibli fan.

Ghibli Best Stories includes a lineup of select music by Hisaishi from Ghibli films ranging from Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind to Ponyo. The album includes 13 songs that have been produced and re-edited by Hisaishi. Songs that every Ghibli fan has heard at least once were selected, including “Tani e no Michi” and “Fantasia” from Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, “Confessions in the Moonlight” from Castle in the Sky, and “Kiki’s Delivery Service” from Kiki’s Delivery Service. The songs have been arranged mainly using a piano, which gives them a mature feel for listeners to enjoy.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of Hisaishi’s first collaboration with director Hayao Miyazaki on the film Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (release date: March 11, 1984). Hisaishi also recently won the Outstanding Achievement in Music award at the 37th Japan Academy Prize for his work on The Wind Rises. This album is an opportunity to look back on the path he walked together with director Miyazaki, who announced his retirement from feature-length filmmaking last year. Ghibli Best Stories costs ¥3,000 (tax not included). It is also available on iTunes, so you can also buy individual songs off of it.
