Projects to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Sailor Moon, to which work on a new anime has begun, are taking place one after the other. One such project is a tribute album looking back at the appeal of the series through music. On Dec. 25, new information on this album to be released on Jan. 29, 2014 was revealed. The title of the album is Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon: The 20th Anniversary Memorial Tribute. The jacket of the album, a specially drawn illustration by creator Naoko Takeuchi, has also been released and the artists participating on the album have been announced.
The jacket illustration is gorgeous and uses light color tones indicative of Takeuchi’s work. Fans will be happy to see Sailor Moon standing with the moon in the background. Previously announced artists to be participating on the album include Mitsuko Horie, Momoiro Clover Z, and Shoko Nakagawa. Adding to this list are Tommy Heavenly 6, a solo project by vocalist Toko Kawase of The Brilliant Green, Haruko Momoi, who is known as the queen of Akiba style, Avu-chan from the band Queen Bee, and Mariko Gotō. Though these artists come from all different genres, each one has been largely influenced by Sailor Moon. Because of this, there is no doubt they have fond memories of the music.
The tracklist of the album has also been revealed. Included are, of course, the songs “Moonlight Densetsu” and “Otome no Policy,” as well as opening themes, insert songs, and even music from the Sailor Moon musical. Interest is sure to rise from here on as to who will be performing which songs.
Bonus goods for purchasing the album in-store when it releases are also being prepared. These bonus items will be stickers of each character––Usagi Tsukino, Ami Mizuno, Rei Hino, Makoto Kino, Minako Aino, Chibiusa, Haruka Tenoh, Michiru Kaioh, Setsuna Meioh, and Hotaru Tomoe––and each store selling the album will also be giving out one character’s stickers. Those interested should base their decision on where to buy it on who is giving out stickers of their favorite character.
