Ghost in the Shell: Arise - Border:2 Ghost Whispers, the second part of the Ghost in the Shell: Arise tetralogy, was released in 23 theaters throughout Japan on Nov. 30. That same day, the Blu-ray began being sold in advance in theaters and cross media development for the film began. The story of Ghost Whispers picks up where the last chapter left off, with Motoko Kusanagi becoming independent of the 501 Organization. Likely to be a highlight are the activities of Kusanagi and other familiar members depicted before their involvement with Section 9.
Now, the release schedule for the third chapter has been revealed. Border:3 Ghost Tears will release in theaters on June 28, 2014, just over one year since Border:1 Ghost Pain released this year on June 22. The release schedule for the fourth chapter is still unknown, but with the current pace, it seems like it too will be released some time later next year. Also, advance tickets for the movie have begun being sold. These tickets come with a special Arise IC card sticker and cost ¥1,200 (including tax). So those who want to continue enjoying Ghost Whispers can now buy tickets to prepare for the next chapter.
For fans who aren’t near a theater screening the movie, the Blu-ray and DVD to release on Dec. 25 is a convenient option. The Blu-ray includes the 56-minute-long feature and 37 minutes of bonus content for ¥7,140. The DVD costs ¥6,090 (both prices include tax). A special full-color booklet is also included with each one, meaning that they are different from the advance versions currently being sold in theaters. This Blu-ray version, by the way, costs ¥8,000 and comes with two bonuses: a special Border:2 scenario written by Tow Ubukata and a raw version of the film with deleted scenes. These are great additions that make up for the slightly inflated price.
