This year’s new work in the Ghost in the Shell series looks at the younger days of Motoko Kusanagi and the others. The first chapter of this four-part series called Ghost in the Shell: Arise was released together with this surprise in June. That chapter is Border:1 Ghost Pain. The plot consists of Kusanagi of the 501 Organization being involved in a conspiracy that leads her to leave the organization. It can surely be called significant in that it divulges backstory to Ghost in the Shell. It is predicted that the second chapter will depict even more the connection between Kusanagi and Section 9.
This long-awaited sequel, Ghost in the Shell: Arise Border:2 Ghost Whispers, will begin its theatrical run in Japan on Nov. 30. Kazuchika Kise, who up until now has had a huge part in the Ghost in the Shell series, is the director and character designer, and Tow Ubukata is the series composer and scriptwriter. This time, Kusanagi’s Logicoma will be hacked. From there, she will be embroiled in another conspiracy.
A theatrical trailer to Ghost in the Shell: Arise Border:2 Ghost Whispers began being shown on Oct. 19. The trailer is about a minute in length and is fully loaded with scenes that keep up with the impact of Border:1 Ghost Pain. Being full of action, the anticipation for this movie is significantly increasing. In addition to Kusanagi and Batou, a highlight is probably the appearance of new characters such as Captain Soga and Vivi. These characters hold the key to the incident depicted in this chapter. Furthermore, for the first time, the ending theme “Soto wa Senjō da yo” by Ichiko Aoba and Cornelius can be heard as the background music in the trailer.
