Will the finally revealed ill feelings from the past between Haruka and Rin be resolved?
The episode starts with a flashback to his elementary school years when Rin transferred schools. He has a girly name, but he is a boy with an open heart who is not afraid to speak his mind.
Rin also goes to the swimming club Haruka and the others are going to. There, he sees Haruka swimming, and agitated, he starts swimming together with him. In the classroom, Rin invites Haruka to a relay, but it doesn’t go well.
Rin talks about Haruka with Makoto. Makoto asks him why is he so obsessed about the relay, but Rin just brushes it off. The next day, he says that he wanted to swim with Haruka, as he will be attending high school abroad.
The reminiscence is over, and we can see the Iwatobi High Swim Club undergoing a Spartan training by Goro Sasabe. On the way home, Rei wonders why everyone is so concerned about Rin.
The swim club members all gather in Sasabe’s house, and everyone is treated to a Sasabe deluxe hot pot. It is the middle of the summer, but it still tastes nice. Then, Goro finds out by accident from one of his gravure magazines that Amakata is also an idol going by the name Marin-chan!
After they finish eating, they end up looking at elementary school pictures. Rei asks Haruka and the others about what happened with Rin, and Haruka talks about his past.
Before the tournament finals in elementary school, Rin tells them why is he so fixated on relays, and the four of them win the relay. However, in their first year of middle school, Haruka and Rin come across each other, and end up swimming, but Rin loses to Haruka. Rin storms off with the words, “I’m quitting swimming.”
Rei doesn’t understand. The next day, Rei is absent from training. It turns out he marched directly into Samezuka Academy to dissolve his ill feelings.
Their connection with Rin is revealed, but that doesn’t mean they will get along right away. In order to get past their sentiments, all the boys can do is swim!
