Monogatari Series Second Season Episode 7 Recap: "Mayoi Jiangshi, Part 1"

The mysterious underclassman, Ougi, says something random to Koyomi when all the traffic lights turn red. Koyomi, who thinks the lights are green, is reminded of Hachikuji Mayoi, the girl who was knocked down by a car.

Koyomi, who is carrying the backpack Mayoi had forgotten, sees Ononki Yotsugi before him. Even though they used to be enemies, Yotsugi tells Koyomi how she was turned into a familiar from a human by Yozuru, whom she calls "Older Sister."

One by one, Koyomi, Yotsugi, and Mayoi all died at some point in time. Koyomi is an immortal vampire, Yotsugi was returned to life as a familiar, and Mayoi remained dead. Who was the luckiest out of all of them? Yotsugi wants to find out why she lived.

Koyomi goes home after she can't find Mayoi. No matter whom she asks, nobody seems to know Mayoi. She is frustrated that she can't do anything for Mayoi. And then, Shinobu appears. She jokes about how she wants to go back in time to the previous day because she hasn't touched her summer homework at all.

Shinobu's spell opens up a gate to the other world in the shrine, and Koyomi follows Shinobu to the next world from the shrine in the valley of the mountain. However, they are just worried about time paradoxes and how to get back, and are about to go home when something happens...
