Production on Saikyō Ginga Ultimate Zero: Battle Spirits was announced on Aug. 18 at the event BatoSupi Max 2013. This newest work in the Battle Spirits series will begin broadcasting on Sept. 22. Battle Spirits is a popular trading card game series that was first released in 2008 and has gone on the surpass 1 billion cards sold. BatoSupi Max 2013 is an event for the series which anyone can enjoy. Attendance for this year’s event exceeded 12,000 people, which increased the anticipation of the anime.

The newly announced Saikyō Ginga Ultimate Zero: Battle Spirits is the sixth work in the Battle Spirits series. Appearing at BatoSupi Max 2013 were members of the main cast––Yuichi Nakamura, Junichi Suwabe, and Mariya Ise––along with director Masaki Watanabe. The three cast members talked to the audience about the enthusiasm for their characters and the work.

Yuichi Nakamura (Rei):
>Since I was in Battle Spirits a long while back as a guest, I knew I wanted to participate on this anime. The impression I have of my character is that although he is young, he is filled with emotion. Please look forward to seeing new characters, new stories, and new cards each week. I also want you to take notice of how the battle with Kiriga plays out even though the main character seems strong from the beginning.

Junichi Suwabe (Kiriga):
>Last year and the year before last, I played a character in the Battle Spirits series who was on the side of the heroes and defeated enemies. There was a great atmosphere in the recording studio. I will try my best this time as the main character’s rival.

Mariya Ise (Laila):
>This is my first role in the Battle Spirits series, so it is an honor to be able to play as Laila. Laila is an upright character who stays close to her little brother, Rikuto. I’m looking forward to playing as her. I want to convey that the journey with Rikuto is the most fun in the galaxy and the universe. There are nothing but smiles and laughter during the post-recording. I want to accurately convey the heated battle scenes characteristic of Battle Spirits.

Backdraft Smiths, the artists in charge of the anime’s theme song, then surged ahead and performed the song live. The performance was even more enlivened by special guests Buffalo Gorō, Bad Boys, Kōji Abe, and Yūji Ayabe who appeared on stage as a cheering squad for the series. The comedy duo Cowcow were also appointed as special supporters. These two will perform in commercials for the anime and be made into cards. In a recent message video, they expressed their feelings toward the series.
