On Sept. 7, the movie Captain Harlock will release in theaters throughout Japan. Roughly one month before its release, on Aug. 9, “Harlock Day” was held. On this day, a new TV commercial for the movie featuring Haruma Miura, the actor who plays the role of an instrumental character in the movie named Yama, was released. This 60-second trailer is packed full of highlights from the movie.
Yama is an assassin who speaks the truth about space pirate Captain Harlock. Harlock openly opposes the government and becomes a wanted fugitive and deemed an enemy of the entire galaxy. Yama accepts an assassination mission and infiltrates the Arcadia, the ship captained by Harlock. Though this role is Miura’s first time voice acting, his magnificent voice and his role as an assassin will no doubt captivate the interest of Harlock fans.
The password to win a special seat at “Harlock in Japan,” a stage greeting and 3D screening of the completed movie that will take place on Aug. 20, was also revealed in the commercial. This event is a chance for fans to be among the first to see the 3D version of the movie as well as meet the movie’s wonderful cast and staff.
The movie Captain Harlock is based on the manga Space Pirate Captain Harlock created by mastermind Leiji Matsumoto. The total cost to produce the movie was an astounding 30 million U.S. dollars, the biggest budget for a work in the history of Toei Animation. The movie resurrects the series as a jaw-droppingly gorgeous, fully CG anime brought to life by a team of top creators.
The movie was selected for the out of competition section of the 70th Venice International Film Festival, and director James Cameron has expressed his ardent enthusiasm for it on several occasions. In addition to this, Toei Animation has received a flood of offers from overseas movie distribution companies from 76 countries regarding the movie. The Sept. 7 embarkment of Captain Harlock is almost here.
