Anime Song Column 9: DJ Kazu Discusses "Morning Arch"

Marina Kouno was the winner of the fourth annual Animax Anison Grand Prix! I also happened to have a chance to share the stage at the event, and I was blown away by the powerful singing voice coming out of someone as small as the 148 cm (4’10”) Kouno. The release of the first single from a vocalist like her is something to be commemorated.

Just as the title “Morning Arch” suggests, this is a song you’ll want to listen to outside in nice weather in the morning or daytime. It’s perfect for driving too! I think this song fits Marina Kouno perfectly, with lyrics that bring across lots of feelings from a girl’s perspective that both sparkle and have a little sweetness.

I find it amazing that each of the winners from the Animax Anison Grand Prix break out immediately and become successful in the mainstream. Obviously musical strength and looks are important, but the fact that they like anime and anime songs like Kouno does must also be a contributing factor in everyone’s wonderful support. Of course, people who don’t watch anime regularly may not understand the enthusiasm and significance of having that kind of opening, but the song definitely exudes it, I think.

Sung by Marina Kouno.
