Anime Song Column 1: DJ Kazu Discusses “Lucky Star” Song “Take it! Sailor Uniform”

“Take it! Sailor Uniform” is an opening theme to the anime Lucky Star. The single features Aya Hirano, Emiri Kato, Kaori Fukuhara, and Aya Endo as their respective characters.

This song is the first musical selection I included on my anison mix CD “J-Kamikyoku Matsuri,” which is now on sale.

I think it’s the same for everyone, but I was in complete shock when I first heard it! There are many songs that start off with lyrics, but this song especially uses this to maximum effect.

Due to the strong combination of Aki Hata and Satoru Kosaki, the lyrics give the melody, texture, and beat a hard-hitting and addictive feel!

I am the same way, but even many of my DJ friends who go back and forth from Hip Hop to J-Pop and anime songs say, “This song is Hip Hop!!” (laughs) The song’s lyrics, which are plentiful and fast like rapping, rhyme throughout. Generally speaking, the lyrics also come crashing down even more than was anticipated. The song quickly excites you when you hear it.

Onomatopoeic sounds are also thrown onto the end of words in the song. Even when DJing, these are there, but, as expected, everyone shouts and jumps up and down at the parts that are easy to understand. The song is also easy to throw interjections into, which doubles the fun!

Such simplicity makes us as DJs extremely happy.

Both the anime and song are loaded with a fun feel. The song can’t be bound to a single genre; it’s simply music. As such, I feel that it’s a song that begs to be enjoyed.
