On Dec. 23-24, at UDX in Akihabara, Christmas Itasha Festa 2012 was held. The event features cars decorated with popular characters such as Hatsune Miku. TOM attended both days of the event to report on the best Itasha at the event.
The venue was filled with cameramen enthusiastically photographing the Itasha. The interior of the Itasha at the event were also on display and featured large monitors and loud stereos to the astonishment of the bustling crowd at the event.
An Itasha owner, who has been displaying his Itasha since 2011, commented that his Itasha cost about 200,000 yen to build, and that other Itasha can cost even more. With a certain brightness sparked in his eyes, he went on to say, “Itasha is a way to show my love for these characters. In the future, I want to be able to continue building Itasha.”
Even though the focus of the event was cars, surprisingly, there was also another kind of vehicle on display: bicycles.
