07 Matcha Cream Rice Cake

Come forth, oh delightful sweetness, to the bitterly green gathering of tea plantations! …… And it was that very prayer of the old priests of Shizuoka that brought us what we now know as matcha cream rice cakes. The soft and tender rice cakes that envelop a perfect bittersweet combination of matcha green tea and sweet cream.

In order to meet its dairy cream partner, matcha green tea was forced to wait patiently until Japan finally decided to turn away from national isolation (Japan’s dairy history is not very thick at all). As a reward for taking the risk and opening itself to the rest of the world, the country received the remarkable dessert called matcha cream rice cake. The soft harmony between the green and the white will surely bless the land of Shizuoka and all of its plantations for eternity.
