Manga means comics or graphic novels in Japanese and is universally understood in any country to people who are avid fans of Japanese animation. It refers to the various graphic novels and comics developed in the 19th century in Japan, with most comics incorporating one of 3 systems in the Japanese language called furigana. Furigana is a reading aid for being able to effectively read and comprehend kanji (Chinese characters). In the 1950’s manga became a major seller in the Japanese publishing industry, with selling over 1.9 billion manga books and magazines. Final Fantasy is all of the manga related to, inspired by, or connected to the popular role playing video game Final Fantasy developed by Square Enix. A number of popular manga pieces have been created over the years, the most popular probably being Lost Stranger. There are about 12 mangas in total that have been released worldwide. In this entry, all of the official Final Fantasy manga will be listed, with a brief description of each title.

Aloha Iroha

Aloha Iroha is an adventure manga that consists of 20 chapters and is based on the material of Final Fantasy XI and is centered on the character of Iroha. Iroha is the heroine of the video game Final Fantasy XI: Rhapsodies of Vana'diel. Iroha has long brown hair, with brown eyes and wears a long white traditional samurai warriors robe with red and gold embroidering. She sometimes wears a red headband with gold colored embroidering patterns. The artist for the manga was Tomokichi and it was released on PlayOnline's Final Fantasy XI official site from August 11, 2015 to December 25, 2015.

The language used in the manga by the main character is an archaic honorific form of Japanese that was spoken from ancient times from the 8th century(Nara period) until the end of the samurai era in 1868 (Meiji period). This form of speech is sometimes still used in plays, events pertaining to traditional historical events, and in animes and comic books that portray samurai or sometimes for comic relief to emphasize a character’s age.

Bravely Default: Flying Fairy (Manga)

Bravely Default: Flying Fairy is a 20 chapter, 4 volume manga series based on the Nintendo DS video game Bravely Default: Flying Fairy, which was released in 2012. The main character in the story is a young girl named, Agnes Oblige. Agnes has long brown hair, brown eyes, and is known for wearing a traditional black and white maid outfit. Other characters that aid in Agnes’s adventure are Tiz Arriror, Ringabel and Edea Lee. The setting of the story is set in a world called Luxendarc. This world is protected by a religious group called the Crystal Orthodox and is operated by the balance of four crystal elements the Crystal Orthodox group is sworn to protect.

Figaro no Kekkon: Tales from Desert

Figaro no Kekkon: Tales from the Desert (lit. The Marriage of Figaro) is a doujinshi(self-published manga, novels, and other works) based on Final Fantasy VII that was created by Kaori Tanaka. The piece describes the background of Sabin and Edgar, at examines life at the Figaro Castle. Tanka notes that the piece should not be considered as official. It has been noted that the work is hard to come by.

Final Fantasy Brave Exvius Rikodoki!

Final Fantasy Brave Exvius Rikodoki! Is a yonkoma manga based on the video game Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. The manga was developed and illustrated by Takeshi Matsumoto and published by Square Enix’s Gangan Comics UP! A new character named Rico from ( Rico's Heart Throbbing Days) is presented. Characters from the manga include Rico, Rain, Lasswell, Fina, Lid, and Sakura.

Final Fantasy Lost Stranger

Final Fantasy Lost Stranger is a manga that was announced on Jan. 31, 2017, during Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 30th Anniversary event. The story is based on a square employee who dies and is reborn in the Final Fantasy world. The manga was published in Japanese in 2017 by Gangan Comics.

  • (Sasaki Shogo) - the main protagonist and former Square employee that is transported into the Final Fantasy world.
  • (Sasaki Yuko) - The sister of Shogo and his coworker.
  • (Sharuru Rinkinfeza) - Leader of the family that is a white mage.
  • (Rei Hagakure) - A warrior that wields an axe.
  • (Duston Voruta) - A black mage.

Final Fantasy XII (Manga)

The Final Fantasy XII manga is a number of manga pieces based on the Final Fantasy XII video game. It includes that same plot but also includes new minor details not mentioned in the game and various extra details.

Final Fantasy XIV: I Will Teach You Professor Lalafell

Final Fantasy XIV: I Will Teach You Professor Lalafell is a manga centered on events first introduced in Final Fantasy XIV. The manga was written by Fakkuma . The characters include:

  • Hyur - A new player to Final Fantasy XIV player.
  • Lalafell - A Mentor.
  • Au Ra - Lalafell's closest companion.

Yukyu no Kaze Densetsu: Final Fantasy III Yori

Yukyu no Kaze Densetsu: Final Fantasy III Yori is a manga based on the NES game Final Fantasy 3 which was published in the year 1991 by Kadokawa Shoten. The manga was written by Kenji Terada and was produced with work from Yuu Kinutani.
