Ookami Mio - VTuber

Ookami Mio is a Japanese VTuber and a member of Hololive GAMERS, a group within Hololive that focuses mostly on streaming video games, as opposed to singing and other variety streams. Although she may not be as popular as the other members in GAMERS, Mio’s calm, motherly nature has gained her an impressive following within the Hololive community.

Ookami Mio Background

Ookami Mio is a wolf girl with a very kind and caring personality that is often soft-spoken and shy. Due to her big heart, she is often considered to be the “mother” of Hololive GAMERS and can be seen hosting a variety of content on her channel. While she tries to keep true to her “GAMERS” group theme, Mio has a variety of talents aside from gaming, leading to streams involving her fortune-telling, playing the ukulele, and more.

Ookami Mio History

Before her debut, Mio was introduced via a video announcing Hololive GAMERS, which was uploaded on December 6th, 2018. Mio would hold her first stream the following day on her individual YouTube channel. The following year, she would reveal a 3D model for her character in June, a second outfit for her 2D model in December, and reach 100,000 subscribers on her channel. In January 2020, Mio would celebrate New Year’s Day by showing off her New Year’s outfit and make her first live concert debut in “Hololive 1st fes. Nonstop Story”, which occurred on January 24th. On October 12nd, her Live2D model would be updated to include a wider range of motion and better animation.

Ookami Mio Physical Description

Ookami Mio is a wolf girl with golden eyes and long, voluminous black hair with a red highlight. Her hair is also tied with a red and white Japanese-style rope at her waist behind her back. This, along with its white tip, makes the end of her hair easy to confuse with her tail, which is generally wrapped around one of her legs. Her main outfit consists of a sleeveless sailor uniform-style dress that is mainly black but includes a white collar and red ribbon. This outfit also includes white thigh-high socks and a pair of Japanese-style high-heel sandals.

Mio has also received several alternate outfits that she can use with her Live2D model as well. The first is a casual outfit consisting of a pair of black and red shorts, as well as a white and black hoodie with a pair of paw prints decorating the center. It also includes dark stockings and white and red sneakers as well. On New Year’s Day 2020, she revealed another alternate outfit that includes a red kimono decorated with various flowers and paw prints that is partially covered with a white apron. This outfit also includes a pair of black stockings and dark brown boots. Her ponytail is also tied up by the back of her head, rather than at her waist.

Ookami Mio Personality

Although many people often associate wolves with ferocity, Ookami Mio is nothing but an exception. In nearly any situation, Mio is calm, collected, and considerate -- albeit a bit timid at times. She is also unbelievably considerate when it comes to her fellow Hololive members, which has led to her often offering personal advice to her peers. This eventually resulted in Mio being seen as a motherly figure in both the GAMERS group and Hololive overall. That said, perhaps due to her timid side, Mio can be jumpy, particularly when she plays horror games. Though she could simply choose to not play horror games, she sometimes chooses to bear with it for the enjoyment of her fans and her self-proclaimed duty as a member of Hololive GAMERS.

Associated Company

Hololive Production is a VTuber agency that manages over fifty individual VTubers across several different brands. Although it includes the all-male Holostars and its own music label, INNK music, the all-female group, Hololive, is the main focus of the agency. As of April 2021, Hololive consists of three main language branches, with its Japanese branch being by far the largest with seven distinct generations. Ookami Mio is a member of Hololive GAMERS, a group that was founded by Hololive 1st Generation member, Shirakami Fubuki. Although Fubuki and Mio were the only members following the group’s formation, Inugami Korone and Nekomata Okayu eventually joined GAMERS in April 2019.

Horror Games

Although she is generally calm and collected, Mio often gets very agitated and jumpy whenever she plays horror games and is prone to screaming at jumpscares or sudden, unexpected noises. Many of the horror games she plays are developed by Chilla’s Art, which includes games like Stigmatized Property, Missing Children, and The Ghost Train. In her horror game streams, Mio is often too afraid to play by herself and asks other Hololive members to join her as she plays. Such members include Oozora Subaru, Inugami Korone, and Nekomata Okayu.

Other Notable Activities

Aside from playing games, Mio also has several other interests that she likes to indulge in on her channel. One of her most well-known hobbies that she shares on YouTube is her fortune-telling, which she normally does with tarot cards. Her fortune-telling streams usually consist of Mio reading a tarot fortune for a group of Hololive members, though for New Year’s 2021, she did readings for every member in Hololive. Other than her fortune-telling, Mio is also currently learning how to play the ukulele and occasionally holds practice streams where she plays the ukulele while singing.
