OtapediaEvageeks Community

Evageeks is an encyclopedia of Evangelion related topics, much like it’s father site, Wikipedia. Here, users can find a plethora of information about anything Evangelion related, with easy to use navigation and clear sections on the homepage making it simple to use while still giving users as much information as they need.

About

The about page, which can be found at the bottom of any page on the site through the button “about this site,” takes users to a page completely explaining most questions purely site-related. The commentary on the ‘about’ page tells users that as of right now, the site is not even in a “public-ready” state. The site continues that though readers are still allowed to look around, they might end up finding some false or incomplete information, and that readers should be wary of this. The site also claims that it wants to be an umbrella for all Evangelion-related content, whether directly or indirectly. The site doesn’t want to be purely information on the actual show, but a way for users to connect with each other, a place to put ideas and thoughts out for others to read and maybe even give their own thoughts and ideas back, and a place for theories to be explored. The site emphasizes that its creation was purely just by Evangelion fans wanting to talk about the series, and made for Evangelion fans wanting to talk about the series, and that’s the only type of mission statement they believe the site needs.

Theories and Analysis

The about page also explains that although the site does have many “Theories and Analysis” pages, they cannot be found through “Basic Info” and must instead be searched for or found through other searches through the subjects of which such theories or analyses pertain to. The site humbly explains that as of right now, they do not have a way for users to find these pages in a straightforward manner, and admit that the site admin need to work on this in the future.

Geeky Guides

Admin explains that though it claims to be an encyclopedia-style informative center, there are many pages within the site that are far less dry and straight-forward than the average wiki-style, and these are often what are referred to as “Geeky-Guides. These guides tend to be more fun to read, and, in fact, include many ‘smart-ass comments’ made by lovers and critics of the Evangelion series.

Essays and Dialogues

This section of the site claims to be set aside only for those particular ideas and explanations that seem to have come first. Original or outstanding work is to be found here; pieces never before seen or thought of- at least not out loud or in writing.

Translations

Though the site does offer many translations, they also warn users that translators are not always to be completely trusted, and that the site tries to use translations sparingly, so as to not give users the wrong information. The site only uses translations when it appears it would be difficult for users to find the translation easy on their own through a search engine such as Google.

Randomosity

Best said by the admin: “Put another way, "Assorted Humor and Curiosities, or, Whatever the hell doesn't fit anywhere else.”

The creators emphasize that they do not like the name of their website, as they feel it is cliche, and they only use it because they used MediaWiki software to run the site.

Exploring the Site

The site offers many things such as news, forums, IRC (chatrooms), articles, guides, terminology, commentary, production, images, and even has an A-Z list of all they offer on the site for users to browse, or a “random” section filled with miscellaneous work that didn’t fit anywhere else. Users can also make their own account using their own email on the site, letting them edit articles and message in the chatrooms.

From the homepage, highly sought after information can be found easier than having to search and scroll through the whole site. For instance, the homepage has a section with links to information on each Evangelion character, human, Evangelion, or Angel. Users can easily find who they are looking for and simply click the name to get their information quickly. Each character has lengthy, wiki-style pages which not only give users plenty of information but also allow them to click on exactly what they want to know about the character and being taken right to that spot on the page.

Not only are the main navigation buttons at the header of each page (news, forums, discussion, history, and the search bar, but the footer of each page also comes with the full menu so that users don’t have to go back to the homepage each time they’re ready to get to a new page.

Lots of the information on the site is written humorously and with wit to showcase to readers that though this is a place with a multitude of information, it is also a user friendly, fans just being fans website.
