Come April 2017, Kotobukiya will add Genjo Sanzo (one of the four protagonists of the popular classic Saiyuki) as a figure to their ever-growing ArtFX J figure series! The creator of Saiyuki, Kazuyka Minekura, was the designer for this figure, as Kotobukiya used an illustration of Genjo drawn by him specifically.
This premium figure is 1/8th scale and has a lovely balance of soft and delicate colors despite the underlying violence and destruction of the scene.
Genjo rests quietly on an utterly destroyed Buddhist statue with a cigarette hanging from his mouth and a pointed glare that seems to cross his features with ease. He almost looks at peace, which makes a closer look a tad bit more alarming, giving that he’s reloading a small gun. Just below, the blood of an unseen foe rests brightly and morbidly against the white of his clothing.
The DX version, which is only available through Kotobukiya stores, also comes with the illustration used as inspiration for this figure, plus a stand so fans can display them together. Either way, both versions should be exactly how fans picture the character Genjo Sanzo, especially with the creative aspects handled by the creator himself.
