The August 2016 issue of Animedia is set to hit shelves from July 9 and will be a special edition dedicated to the upcoming One Piece movie, One Piece Film: Gold, which will be released in cinemas across Japan on July 23.
The TV anime adaptation of One Piece began airing in December 1999, and Animedia has featured various One Piece specials since the very beginning. The series depicts the adventures of protagonist Monkey D. Luffy who aims to become the Pirate King and his crew named the Straw Hat Pirates featuring laughter and tears along the way. Gold is the 13th One Piece theatrical movie and is produced by the original author of the manga, Eiichiro Oda. As a special celebration of the movie’s release, the anime incarnation of One Piece will be featured on the cover of Animedia for the very first time.
The cover image features both Luffy and his sworn brother, Sabo. It’s a brand new illustration that is perfectly pitched to express the majesty of this kingly pair. The special feature includes interviews with voice actors including Mayumi Tanaka who plays Luffy, director Hiroaki Miyamoto, and scriptwriter Tsutomu Kuroiwa, plus messages from Straw Hat Pirate cast members Kazuya Nakai, Akemi Okamura, Kappei Yamaguchi, Hiroaki Hirata, Ikue Otani, Yuriko Yamaguchi, Kazuki Yao, and Cho, as well as Kazuhiro Yamaji who plays Gildo Tesoro. The Mayumi Tanaka interview runs to over 5,000 characters but it’s not all about the film, the special feature includes the TV anime and quite a bit about Sabo too so if you’re a One Piece fan it’s a real must read.
There’s also an interview with the director of the TV anime’s Dressrosa Arc, Toshinori Fukuzawa, plus a recap of the epic 2.5-year chapter, and an article about the upcoming One Piece summer special One Piece: Heart of Gold including an interview with its director Tatsuya Nagamine, as well as all the latest merchandising news. Filled with all the One Piece information you could wish for, this Animedia special is one fans will be looking forward to.
Of course, if you’ve had enough of One Piece (as if!) you can also feast your eyes on a long Osomatsu-san pinup featuring the guys in their bathing suits, plus amazing brand new illustrations of Crayon Shin-chan and Buriburizaemon! The August edition of Animedia hits shelves July 9.
