With the Tanabata or Star Festival getting closer, Mizkan decided to bring some more color into it through their Sushi+ campaign, which promotes new, innovative ways of making and eating sushi, often with unusual ingredients.
Sushi Cake for Enlivening Tanabata
To bring something new to Tanabata meals, Mizkan is distributing a “sushi cake” recipe and how to enjoy it. By putting star-shaped rolled omelette, ham, cucumber, and carrots on the top with some okra, salmon roe, and salmon flakes, you get a fun and appetizing sushi cake showered with multi-colored stars - a perfect dish for Tanabata. All you need is a cake pan or milk box on hand, and anyone from children to adults can make their own gorgeous sushi cake, which Mizkan is promoting through TV commercials and a special site. The TV commercial “Sushi Cake Song Tanabata” will begin broadcasting Japan-wide from Saturday, June 25.
TV Commercial Story
Mrs. Yasuda and her daughter are having a fun time making sushi cake, delicious sushi shaped like a cake, which they decorate with their favorite toppings. When the cake is ready, the family surrounds it. They make a wish to the stars and have a nice Tanabata party! The sushi cake brings a pop of color to the table and a smile to everyone’s face.
Starting from June 24 (Fri.), the special Hirogaru! Sushi+ website will introduce how to make and how to enjoy sushi cakes recommended for Tanabata.
