News of a theatrical anime and sequel were announced one after the other.
On Oct. 31, the event “Festival in the City: Welcome to Minami-za” was held at Minami-za in Kyoto, the location of anime production company Kyoto Animation. There was huge excitement on the day of the event as wonderful guests took the stage including members of the main cast and the band True which is in charge of the opening theme song. The above announcements came as a surprise during the event.
According to the announcement, the movie’s title is Sound! Euphonium the Movie: Welcome to the Kitauji High Concert Band Club. It will look back on the TV series, meaning fans have the chance to experience the series’ world anew on the big screen. Further details including release date have yet to be revealed.
Also, in terms of the sequel, all we know right now is that production has been greenlit. Even still, there is no doubt that fan anticipation will be high to find out what happens to the Kitauji Concert Band Club members after the national tournament.
The anime Sound! Euphonium is based on the novel Sound! Euphonium: Welcome to the Kitauji High Concert Band Club by Ayano Takeda that won Takarajimasha’s 8th Japan Love Story Award. Set in a concert band club, the story follows girls making the most of their adolescence. Its refreshing, youthful story has gained it popularity.
The second KyoAni and Do fan event “This Is What We Are Now!!” was held at Kyoto Miyako Messe over two days, Oct. 31 and Nov. 1. On the afternoon of the second day, a talk event was even held with the voice cast of Sound! Euphonium. Keep on the lookout for more big news to come.
