The tankobon volume of Naruto Side-Story: Seventh Hokage and the Scarlet Spring Month (Naruto Gaiden: Nanadaime Hokage to Akairo no Hanatsuzuki) currently serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump was released on Aug. 4. Issue 36 of Weekly Shonen Jump on sale Aug. 3 also includes a supplemental replacement book cover featuring the series.
Naruto Side-Story: Seventh Hokage and the Scarlet Spring Month is a spin-off manga that depicts what happens after the grand conclusion of Naruto last year. The story focuses on the Uchiha family—Sasuke, Sakura, and Sarada—and the new generation including Naruto’s son, Boruto. Time has passed since the Great Ninja War, and everyone is enjoy a moment of peace. In the Hidden Leaf Village, a new generation is being raised up. However, a turbulent figure who possesses a Sharingan begins to move in the shadows, and Sasuke’s and Sakura’s daughter, Sarada, makes this figure her target…
In celebration of the tankobon manga’s release, issue 36 of Weekly Shonen Jump on sale Aug. 3 includes as a supplemental item a replacement Naruto book cover. The original cover of the tankobon volume features a grown up Naruto along with Sarada and Chocho, while the replacement cover features Boruto and Mitsuki.
Since its serialization began in 1999 in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump, Naruto has become highly popular in Japan and overseas. The series was concluded in November 2014, but the “Naruto New Era Opening Project” is currently underway. The culmination of the project, the movie Boruto: Naruto the Movie, was released in Japan on Aug. 7. A Hollywood live-action movie adaptation of Naruto was also announced last month, and this is making big waves. It seems the Naruto whirlwind will continue to blow from here on.
