From the hugely popular series One Piece, One Piece Nippon Judan! 47 Cruise CD was released on Jan. 28. The concept behind the album is that the characters go on a journey through music. In celebration of the release, a poster project that cuts across all 47 prefectures of Japan has begun. Forty seven different character posters have been put up in major train stations in each prefecture.
The CD One Piece Nippon Judan! 47 Cruise CD was born from the campaign “Nippon Judan! OPJ47 Cruise” which was held when the comic version of One Piece crossed over 300 million copies in print. This character CD project was produced with the theme that the 47 characters who appeared in the newspaper advertisements for the campaign cruise through all parts of Japan through music.
On One Piece Nippon Judan! 47 Cruise CD, one character is denoted for each prefecture, with Sanji’s prefecture being Chiba, Tony Tony Choppers’ being Fukuyama, Trafalgar Law’s being Osaka, and so on. The songs on the CD include characters singing and talking about the unique qualities of each prefecture. The jacket also features exclusive artwork, which shows noted products and buildings from the different prefectures.
Of the 47 posters, not one includes main character Luffy, but through the campaign “I Alone Will Form a Musical Pirate Crew!” 8 people will be chosen from 47 to receive an original character CD. Luffy’s character song as well was created for the occasion.
One Piece is a hugely popular manga by Eiichiro Oda that is currently serializing in Weekly Shonen Jump (Shueisha). The manga has 76 volumes published to date with over 320 million copies in print. Because of its high popularity, it is widely loved and has been developed into many other media including games, anime, and events. Such a large-scale project as this one is only possible due to the series’ high popularity its huge number of characters. The posters went up on Feb. 2 and 3 and will be displayed in stations for a one-week period.
