Character pop-up stores based on the TV anime The Seven Deadly Sins that has picked up popularity since its broadcast began in April are coming to three cities in Japan. The stores will open for a limited time in Tokyo, Osaka, and Hiroshima in February 2015.

Character pop-up stores are concept shops themed after characters from talked-about series at which visitors can enjoy original goods and mini games. There have been many pop-up shops for other series to date including Kuroko’s Basketball, Love Live!, and Attack on Titan. Chosen this time is a work popular for its abundantly unique characters, The Seven Deadly Sins.

The Seven Deadly Sins is a popular manga that began serialization in 2012 in Weekly Shonen Jump (Shueisha). The manga is authored by Nakaba Suzuki who is known for such hits as Rising Impact and Kongo Bancho, and it is currently up to its 12th volume.

The story begins with Elizabeth Liones, Third Princess of the Kingdom of Lyonesse, going off in search of the legendary warriors “The Seven Deadly Sins” in order to save her turbulent country. By strange happenstance she meets one of the main characters of the story, Meliodas, and together they set out on a journey to find the other members of “The Seven Deadly Sins.”

The inside of the character pop-up stores will be decorated to look like the bar that Meliodas runs, the Pig Hat, and there will be goods for sale themed after the series’ world. Effort is being put into introducing at the stores additional items and interior decorations that match the anime’s world.

Also at the stores will be limited edition illustrations drawn for events including an SD illustration and life-size illustration. The SD illustration is an image illustration of Meliodas wearing pig ears in homage to his bar, the Pig Hat. The life-size illustration shows the characters wearing suits that give a completely different feel to the world. Goods that feature these illustrations will also be available.

The shops will be located in Shinjuku Marui Annex, Shibuya Parco, Namco Land Otori-ten, and on the fourth floor of Hiroshima Parco-ten. Aside from the shop, there will also be a raffle and mini attraction, and a branch stall is also scheduled to open in Tokyo Station. Because this series is so popular, the stores will likely be frequented by many fans.
