Yoshiki Tanaka’s Masterpiece Fantasy Returns - Anime Adaptation of Hiromu Arakawa’s Version of The Heroic Legend of Arslan Greenlit, PV Releases

It has been revealed that Yoshiki Tanaka’s masterpiece fantasy work The Heroic Legend of Arslan has been greenlit to become an anime once again. This electrifying announcement came on Nov. 2 in a commercial during the TV broadcast of the anime The Seven Deadly Sins on MBS/TBS. The official site also went live the same day and began distributing information about the anime.

Being adapted into an anime is popular manga artist Hiromu Arakawa’s manga version of the series, which is based on the original novel series by Yoshiki Tanaka. The series began serialization in Bessatsu Shonen Magazine (Kodansha) in the summer of 2013, and it picked up attention as a collaboration between big-name creators and a famous hitmaker manga artist.

In addition to information regarding the decision behind the anime adaptation, there is also already an introduction to the anime, a character relationship chart, and introductions to the characters on the official site. Arakawa’s character illustrations are striking as well. On the other hand, there is much we have to wait to find out about including when it will release, the staff, cast, music artists, and more.

A PV that announces the anime adaptation has been released on both the official site and YouTube. The PV was uploaded to the official channel of NBC Universal’s anime brand, Rondorobe. This as well is composed from drawings in Arakawa’s manga and brings plenty of anticipation to the anime.

The Heroic Legend of Arslan is one of the standout works of Tanaka, who is well known for Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Soryuden, and other works. He has continued to write it since 1986. The series is currently a bestseller, with up through Vol. 14 having been published and sales higher than 6 million copies. The series is set in central Asia in a different world reminiscent of Persia. The story begins with Arslan, prince of the powerful kingdom of Palse, losing his kingdom on the day he turns 14. Arslan, who has been called timid and unreliable, then risks his life to fight to reclaim his kingdom. The series was first adapted into anime in the ‘90s as a movie and OVA. It’s high degree of completeness has made it a series praised by fans. This new anime adaptation comes roughly 20 years after the first.

What to key in on this time, of course, is that it seems the anime adaptation will be based on Arakawa’s manga. Beginning serialization in 2013, the manga skillfully conveys the beautiful artwork Arakawa––popular from such hits as Fullmetal Alchemist and Silver Spoon––is known for. Two volumes have already been published, and the series has already broken through 1 million copies. Also, an English version of the manga is being distributed on Crunchyroll, a content distribution site for fans overseas, concurrently with the serialization in Japan. This announcement of another anime adaptation seems likely to catch fire not just in Japan, but overseas as well.
