A collaboration project between a racing team and mechanical designer Shoji Kawamori that was announced at Wonder Festival in February is finally getting off the ground. The project, titled “Hatsune Miku GT Project,” is a collaboration between Good Smile Racing, which has competed in races including the Super GT since 2008 in an itasha designed after Hatsune Miku, and Shoji Kawamori, Japan’s representative mechanical designer.
The official site for the project has now opened and new information is starting to be released. The site features the impressive text “Shoji Kawamori × Good Smile Company Full-Blown Start.” A PV has also been created by 3D anime studio Sanjigen to sync up with the start of the project, and it too has been released.
The “Hatsune Miku GT Project” began due to Kawamori and Good Smile Company’s Aki Takanori both having a liking for cars. Kawamori created a car the design of which is concepted around a race car that transforms into a robot and is themed after having feminine body lines, and this was unveiled at a Super GT event held during Wonder Festival 2014 Winter at Makuhari Messe on Feb. 9. The large reaction in received is tied to it becoming a commercial project. According to the official site, for six months from then on Kawamori himself improved the details of the car and worked alongside a development team specializing in mechanical transformations to verify his designs. With production close at hand, fans can now see this new design.
Also, a CG anime PV serving as an advertisement for the product has been completed. This was created through cooperation with Sanjigen, Japan’s representative 3D anime studio. The length is about 30 seconds and it’s packed full of fun including being able to see the race car transform into a robot. Don’t miss out on what kind of hobby products will release next.
