A Life-Size Danboard that Moves! Let’s Go Meet This Costumed Danboard and Take Pictures Together!

Do you know the cute cardboard robot Danboard? Danboard is a character from the huge hit manga Yotsuba&! that began serialization in 2003 and has over 10 million copies in print. Danboard’s body uses a simple design and is comprised of simple geometric shapes like circles and triangles, and its unique atmosphere has garnered it tremendous popularity. Danboard is currently sold as a variety of figures and goods. There may even be more versions of Danboard than there are of the manga’s main character, Yotsuba. Now, Danboard has been entirely recreated as a character costume by figure manufacturer Kotobukiya. And this Danboard that looks like it jumped straight out of the manga appeared in Akihabara. We went to check out Danboard’s presence and get snap-happy taking pictures!

A large-size Danboard appeared from the back of the store!

This special version bears Kotobukiya’s logo on its body.
Danboard struts through Akihabara totally at ease.
When Danboard gets to a small slope easy to fall on at the front of the store, a customer steps in to help out.
Preparations complete! Time to take as many pictures as we want.
Once Danboard was on the scene, people crowded around the front of the store to get a glimpse.
Similarly to the manga, there’s an area on Danboard’s body where coins can be inserted.
Once a coin is inserted, Danboard will really show off its moves (speak to a Kotobukiya staff member prior).
Even tourists who came to Japan to sightsee stopped and took a commemorative picture with Danboard.

After our 20-minute session was up, Danboard showed its gratitude with a bow.

Danboard (Kotobukiya Ver.), here’s to hoping we meet again someday!

Danboard will make routine appearances at Kotobukiya Akihabara-Kan from now until September. For those planning to come to Japan during this time, how about getting a picture taken together with Danboard? It will surely be a memory that will stick with you for years to come!
