The TV anime Free! Eternal Summer began broadcasting late night on July 2 on ABC, Tokyo MX, TV Aichi, and other networks. It is the sequel to the hugely popular anime Free! which was broadcast in the summer of 2013.
Free! became huge news due to it being created by Kyoto Animation (KyoAni), which has created many popular anime to date including K-On! and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. This is due to the anime being not just a sports anime, but one also targeted mainly toward girls. However, the anime has gathered support from both girls and guys and is now considered the new representative anime of KyoAni. Free! Eternal Summer is the long-awaited second season.
Returning from last season are, or course, Haruka, Makoto, Nagisa, Rei, and Rin. Free! Eternal Summer also has a new story, and a new character named Sosuke will be introduced. The first episode, “Stormy Dive-Dash!”, takes place after the tournament from last season and shows a matured Haruka. Though it’s chaotic with everyone in the swim club participating in various events, they pass their days the same as always. However, a new season is approaching for Haruka and the gang…
Before the broadcast of the new season, a new key visual was released. The impressive composition shows the five members of the Iwatobi Swim Club under a blue sky. Screenshots from the anime were also released. There is no doubt that these familiar scenes and summer-like backgrounds will make fans nostalgic.
Also, syncing up with the timing of the broadcast, official voice clips have begun being distributed. There are 50 voice clips in total and they are being distributed through Recochoku and Animelo. More details can be found on the official site.
