The beginning of June is a rainy time in Japan. Many people may think that carrying around an umbrella on a rainy day is a burden. However, plastic umbrellas that would make anyone look forward to rainy days went on sale for a limited time at Family Mart on June 24. These plastic umbrellas are collaboration items with Hatsune Miku, the well-known virtual singer representative of Japan. The designs of the umbrellas use illustrations of Hatsune Miku, and a cute Miku world expands when the umbrellas are opened.
There are three designs each created for the occasion by a different popular artist. CHAN-CO created an impressive blue and white polka dot design with Miku peeking out from the center of the big polka dots. 456 created a mysterious design themed after rain. This design combines cloudy and rainy days with Miku in the middle. And Eri Kamijo’s design is monotone and stylish, showing Miku walking through a field of hydrangea on a rainy day. Each seem to be focused on practicality and shine with a casual sense. There is no doubt that carrying one of these umbrellas will attract attention from those around you.
Aside from having a good sense, each umbrella is also moderately priced at 980 yen (1,008 yen including tax). This price point was decided on because they are plastic umbrellas. Until now, Family Mart has long been a seller of many throwaway plastic umbrellas, but wanting to contribute to being green, the company decided to tackle selling plastic umbrellas made through collaborations with fashion brands. This is why sales of these plastic umbrellas were implemented.
These plastic Hatsune Miku umbrellas are on sale now at approximately 10,700 Family Mart locations (some locations excluded) around Japan. They are also on sale on Famima.com. However, each one is limited so it’s certainly important to get yours fast.
