Psycho-Pass is Becoming an Xbox One Game, New Content to Continue from TV and Movie Series

The TV anime Psycho-Pass, which was broadcast for half a year starting in fall 2012, is a popular series with a grouping of top creators that includes the Bayside Shakedown series’ Katsuyuki Motohiro as chief director, Gen Urobuchi (Nitroplus) as story planner, and Akira Amano as character planner.

The series has picked up massive acclaim and the second season of the TV anime was announced in March along with an anime film set for release this winter. From a TV anime to a novel, manga, movie, and now the second season of the anime––the series continues to mix into various media. It’s safe to say this will be a standout title of 2014.

Now, more big content has joined this list for Psycho-Pass. The game Psycho-Pass (tentative title) is currently in development for the next generation system Xbox One, which is set to release in Japan on Sept. 4. This was revealed at the “Xbox One Software Announcement” held by Mages in Akihabara, Tokyo on May 27. The release date and price are still unknown, but it will be an adventure game. Because it’s being released on the high-spec Xbox One, special attention is being payed to what kind of game it will be.

A video for the game was also shown at the announcement event. The video is impressive and piles on scenes familiar to the series. Many familiar faces from the anime who are also on the game’s staff include Makoto Asada who is in charge of the game’s development, Gen Urobuchi who is in charge of story planning and scenario supervision, Akira Amano who is the character planner, and Kyoji Asano who is the character designer. Nitroplus is handling the scenarios.

The game will take place between Episodes 1-6 of the anime and the setting is moving from the city to a remote island. Though it is set during the anime, it will have an entirely original story. A special point of interest is the addition of two new characters who will both serve as the game’s main characters. They will both be members of the Public Safety Bureau's Criminal Investigation Division who are trying to resolve an incident. In addition to these two, a new enemy character will also be introduced. It was also announced that the game will work with Kinect and smartphones. It seems anticipation will rise for this game that further expands the world of Psycho-Pass.
