In Bakumatsu Rock, Shinsengumi and a group of passionate rockers battle it out through song in the Bakumatsu period, with the concept “Revolutionize Japan through rock!” The PSP game was released in February of this year, and an anime TV series is also planned for July. It’s already gained numerous fans among female players and is showing signs of becoming the next big thing.
Information was released recently about the main characters of the Bakumatsu Rock TV series. The five main characters are Ryōma Sakamoto, Shinsaku Takasugi, Kogorō Katsura, Toshizō Hijikata, and Sōji Okita. How will their stories play out as an anime? No fan will want to miss finding out.
The staff of the anime series are also getting attention. Handling animation production is Studio Deen, which has an established reputation for anime aimed at female audiences. Akiharu Ishī is also working on character design. Raising the expectations even more is director Itsurō Kawasaki, known for such anime as Sengoku Basara and Rental Magica.
The series starts in a period when the Tokugawa shogunate’s “Heaven’s Song” has stolen the hearts of the public in the peaceful era. Singing “Heaven’s Song” are the top idol group Shinsengumi. However, the soul of rock has been growing in the hearts of those unhappy with the shogunate’s control. Leading these people is Ryōma Sakamoto.
On April 28, the official site of the anime series was completely redone. The site will continue to release new information as the July premiere approaches. Fans should be sure to check it out.
In conjunction with the renovation, the site also began offering the first volume of its electronic newspaper. A new volume will be uploaded each month. In addition, to commemorate the release of the Bakumatsu Rock CD, a music video has been made available again for a limited time. These will provide much entertainment until the series begins airing.
