Hello Kitty, who boasts a popularity both at home in Japan and abroad, is approaching her 40th year. A new collaboration is under way to commemorate this milestone.
Sanrio’s Hello Kitty has been involved in numerous daring collaborations up until now, and the partner for this 40th anniversary is a doll aimed at young girls called Licca-chan by Takara Tomy. Much like Hello Kitty, Licca-chan is a character beloved by people of all generations, making this a very strong partnership. The result of this collaboration will be released on Dec. 27 as the Hello Kitty Daisuki Licca-chan series.
Hello Kitty and Licca-chan have become two of the leaders of Japanese kawaii culture. They have grown with the times alongside their young female fans and are loved by not only young girls, but adult women as well.
Licca-chan’s other collaborations with Puella Magi Madoka Magica and Hatsune Miku this year have also gained attention. These promotions are not far behind Hello Kitty. This product will be something mothers and daughters can enjoy together.
The concept behind the Hello Kitty Daisuki Licca-chan series is that Licca-chan is going over to Hello Kitty’s house to play. The series will be released as three different kinds of items that include an outfit and a house in addition to the doll. The Licca-chan doll wears a Hello Kitty printed dress and a headband with Hello Kitty ears on it. The outfit includes a Hello Kitty-styled hooded parka, ruffled bottoms and socks. The house includes miniature versions of actual Hello Kitty merchandise. Items such as cups, watches, mirrors, and a robot vacuum cleaner have been remade into smaller versions, allowing Licca-chan to have fun living like a Hello Kitty fanatic.
The Sanrio-operated Sanrio Gift Gate Aeon Mall Makuhari New City opened on Dec. 20. This location will feature a large-scale release of the Hello Kitty Daisuki Licca-chan series.
Drawing attention above all else is a life-size reproduction of the Hello Kitty Daisuki Licca-chan Room along the walls of the store. Advance purchases of the Hello Kitty Daisuki Licca-chan series are also available. It’s a great chance to check out the real thing for yourself.
