When the pair return to Aug. 21, the world is in ruins. Koyomi and Shinobu investigate the town, but can’t see anyone around. They realize that the world changing was a consequence of saving Mayoi and, upon further investigation, find that something dire must have happened on the night of June 14. Intending to use the time slip to investigate the day in question, they again head toward the shrine, but once they get there they find there isn’t enough spiritual energy left.
Once night falls, mysterious zombies appear in front of the duo. Shinobu escapes to the sky but there talks about her vampire past. The meaning of all this is that the person responsible for the destruction of the world is Shinobu herself. June 14 - the day before the culture festival, the day Koyomi and Hitagi had their first date, the day that happened to Black Hanegawa, the day Shinobu ran away from home, and the day that Meme Oshino left town.
Shinobu intended to destroy the world where Koyomi wouldn’t have come to find her - the world where a version of Koyomi who never met Mayoi was killed that night by Black Hanegawa, and Shinobu, who regains all of his vampire powers, destroys the world.
“Forgive me,” Shinobu apologises, and Koyomi replies in a kind voice, “You’ve done nothing wrong.” The two decide to live in this world together and set off some fireworks. Then, something appears in front of them...
