In celebration of Pokémon X and Pokémon Y releasing on Oct. 12 for the Nintendo 3DS, an original TV anime based on the games Pokémon Red and *Pokémon Green titled Pokémon: The Origin will begin broadcasting in Japan on Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. via the TV Tokyo Network.
Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green, known as Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue outside of Japan, are the original RPG games of the Pokémon series. In Japan, the games released in 1996 for the Nintendo Game Boy. The games first introduced players to a certain young boy and his adventures with training Pokémon.
The Pokémon anime series began roughly one year after the release of the first games and has since then continued. While the titles and characters have changed, the long-withstanding series has been broadcast now for 16 years.
A trailer has been released which confirms that the main character of Pokémon: The Origin, Red, will choose Charmander. Other characters who will appear in the anime include Red’s rival Green (known as Blue outside of Japan), helpful Professor Samuel Oak, Red’s mom, initial gym leader Brock, and the head of Team Rocket, Giovanni. It is sure to be enjoyed by Pokémon fans both new and seasoned.
The three companies producing Pokémon: The Origin––OLM, Production I.G, and Xebec––have worked on past Pokémon anime including Pokémon the Movie: Black - Victini and Reshiram and Pokémon the Movie: White - Victini and Zekrom which together made up the 14th Pokémon film and marked the first time the trio worked together. Although it is being broadcast on TV as a special program, the work has been given the same effort as that of a film.
Fans can enjoy being fully absorbed in the world of Pokémon as they watch this anime on the origins of the game while playing the latest games of the series.
