The film Nuigurumaa Z starring Shoko Nakagawa (Shokotan) will release on Jan. 25 of next year in Japan. The film is about a girl who chooses to take on the persona of a teddy bear for the sake of protecting the people she loves.
On Aug. 3, promotion of the film began in T-Joy theaters throughout Japan revealing the original story. The first poster visual has also been revealed. The poster visual features Shokotan dressed in a Lolita outfit. The outfit is custom made by the well-respected Lolita clothing brand Baby, The Stars Shine Bright and seems like it will become one of the highlights of the film.
Furthermore, poster visuals of Kazuya Tsurumaki’s ( Evangelion ) and Shigeto Koyama’s ( Heroman ) versions of Nuigurimaa have been revealed. The powerful duo worked together on the character design of Nuigurumaa. Fans can enjoy viewing the sexy Tsurumaki version and cute Lolita Koyama version.
Nuigurumaa Z was inspired by the song “Fight! Nuigurumaa” written by Kenji Ōtsuki. In the song, he sings about the emotions of a heroine who chooses to take on the persona of a teddy bear in order to protect those she cares about. The project is being spearheaded by director Noboru Iguchi, acclaimed for such works as Denjin Zaborger.
The main character is being played by Shoko Nakagawa, marking her first movie role. On the movie, Nakagawa had this to say: “This movie has zombies, which I love, friendship, love, and cute fashion. This extremely chaotic world is completely packed with loveliness.” In the movie, she fights against zombies using pink nunchucks that she created herself.
The trailer shows a transformed Nakagawa as Nuigurumaa fighting against a horde of 109 zombies, the most ever shown in a Japanese movie. Also shown is a talking teddy bear, though it is still unknown who will voice this character.
