On July 28 at Summer Wonder Festival 2013 (WonFes), a stage event for Nitroplus’ popular character, Super Sonico, titled “SoniSute - Super Sonico Stage,” was held. At the event, two new games based on Super Sonico were announced.
Super Sonico was created as a mascot girl for the Nitroplus-sponsored live event Nitro Super Sonic, and afterward she began being used in gravure and as a goods model. She is 18 years old and a freshmen in college. She is also a musician who acts as the vocalist and guitarist in the band Superorbital.
After introducing Super Sonico’s profile, the new PS3 game More! SoniComi to be released in 2014 was suddenly projected on the screen. The game is a port of the 2011 PC game SoniComi, and it features enjoyable content like the ability to communicate with Sonico and slightly extreme visuals.
Players take on the role of Sonico’s exclusive cameraman, coordinate outfits for her to wear, take pictures of her, and try to raise her into a full-blown model. If players are lucky, they can even date Sonico. The game tries hard to incorporate components from three different genres: idol training simulations, romance adventures, and photography simulations.
The reason that this ported edition has the keyword “more” in its name was then introduced on screen in big letters that said “More excitement! More extreme! More everything!” Additional details on this game weren’t released, but from the keywords presented, fans have plenty to imagine.
Next up, amid the introduction “Super Sonico will become an idol!” was the Nintendo 3DS game SoniPro. This idol producer & communication game is a joint effort between Nitroplus, which is supervising; Georide, which is producing the music; and Imageepoch, which is producing the game. It is scheduled to released in the winter of 2014.
Taking the stage to discuss the game was Imageepoch producer Hideyuki Mizutani, who explained the thoughts put into its production: “We want you to see the singing and dancing Sonico-chan on the 3DS’ powerful 3D.” One charm of this game is the ability to take it with you every day and meet up Sonico anywhere.
In the game, players become an idol producer who, while managing her schedule, raises Sonico to be the type of idol of their choosing. The game adopts original content and newly written, exclusive scenarios. Also, the scenes with Sonico singing and dancing will employ rhythm game components.
At this point in the event, Mizutani left the stage and Sonico herself appeared on screen to the applause of the crowd as she said, regarding the game’s release, “I will try as hard as I can to live up to your expectations!”
It was also announced that Sonico will return soon for the event Nitro Super Sonic 2013 to be held at the Tokyo International Forum from Sept. 21-22. At this concert, she will perform together with her band Superorbital.
From her energetic activity as a mascot character to the various console games to be released, fans should definitely keep their eyes on Sonico.
