MimiMemeMIMI, the "Next Generation Audiovisual Unit" that Recently Debuted with an Anime Theme Song

I'm sure that not many people are familiar with MimiMemeMIMI, a new musical unit with a strange name. Perhaps some know them through the anime series A Town Where You Live (ATWYL). MimiMemeMIMI is a two piece female unit made up of members Yuka and Chamooi that debuted with “Sentimental Love,” the theme song for ATWYL. The girls call themselves a "next generation audiovisual unit" and offer a unique mixture of music and imagery, with Yuka providing vocals and Chamooi handling the visual elements.

The two met while attending the same college, and, with the advice of an anime theme song producer, decided to form an official unit. Vocalist Yuka has been writing songs since middle school, and has been performing as a singer-songwriter for some time. Specifics about her career before her debut are still unknown.

Many people may be familiar with the graphic artist Chamooi for her work as a TOM Special Creator. She has become a popular illustrator and has received support from many for her cute and poppy works on Pixiv that often feature Vocaloid characters. She has a wide range of experience in illustration, most recently providing visuals for a collaboration between Hatsune Miku and the fashion brand Earth Music & Ecology, and the illustrated book for AKB48 member Mayu Watanabe's third single, “Hikaru Monotachi.”

If you watch the two music videos the unit has released, you will see that Chamooi's MIMI lives in a cute and colorful world that complements Yuka's musical arrangements. The videos are made so that the lyrics to the songs are mixed in with the other visuals, allowing the viewer to make full use of their eyes and ears to experience their music. It is truly a "new generation audiovisual" experience.

You can't say you've truly enjoyed “Sentimental Love” if you've only heard the song in the opening for ATWYL. Be sure to also check out “Mr. Darling,” ATWYL's official image song, also performed by the unit.
