Cosplay Showcase is an interactive photo book application for iOS and Android devices by photographer Nobutsugu Sugiyama. It features over 120 cosplayers as 222 popular characters, all of which can be rotated and viewed from a variety of different angles just as if they are figurines in a real showcase. The app has skyrocketed to popularity since its
release.
Sugiyama has since expanded and revamped Cosplay Showcase with more of his original work and published a large format photo book of the collection that is a fusion of cosplay and CG creations. It has also been on show at two exhibitions in Tokyo and at the exhibition Japan Expo in Sydney during 2012. Currently an exhibition is being held in the littleMOCA Gallery in Taiwan, at which a selection of original works published in the photo book are on display. The exhibition is ongoing until Aug. 11 (Sun).
Nobutsugu Sugiyama’s Profile:
Nobutsugu Sugiyama has been active as a freelance photographer since his student days at Nihon University College of Art and was based in Sydney for five years beginning in 1986. After returning to Japan, Sugiyama’s work included advertising, magazines, photo collections, and photo exhibitions focused on people and fashion. His recent work also includes advertising projects with celebrities. A critic appearing on television and in magazines, Sugiyama is also a consummate lecturer.
