“Danganronpa: The Animation” Volume 1 Blu-ray & DVD Release Date Announced

The news that Spike Chunsoft’s popular game Danganronpa Kibou no Gakuen to Zetsubou no Koukousei is becoming an anime is picking up quite a bit of attention. The anime will begin broadcasting on July 4 on MBS, TBS, CBCm BS-TBS, AT-X, and other stations.

On June 23, an event at Toho Cinemas Roppongi Hills welcoming guest Megumi Ogata, who plays that main character Naegi Makoto, was held. The name of the event was “Episode 1 Advance Screening & Special Talk Show.” From Roppongi, this event was also simulcast in 10 theaters around Japan, and many fans were able to enjoy this first-time screening together.

Also, the release date for the Blu-ray and DVD of the anime has already been decided on. Volume 1 will release on Aug. 28 from Geneon Universal. After which, one subsequent volume will release each month. The first press limited edition of volume 1 will cost 4,200 yen on Blu-ray and 3,150 yen on DVD (both prices include tax). This limited edition comes with content that fans will be happy about, including a bonus CD with the anime’s opening theme song and deluxe game cards. Also, the set will come in a 3-sided case drawn by character designer Rui Komatsuzaki as well as a specially drawn Digipak.

The original game for Danganronpa has the concept of being a fast-paced mystery action game. For the anime, staff who deeply love the original game are participating. Seiji Kishi, who has brought many popular anime to the world, is directing, Makoto Uezu is the series composer and scriptwriter, and Kazuaki Morita is the character designer.

Furthermore, the wonderful voice cast is also being noticed. Making news is Nobuyo Ohyama’s appointment as the voice of Monokuma, the core of the work. Ohyama also voiced Monokuma in the game. In addition to Ogata as the main character, other members of the voice cast who will be reprising their roles from the game include Makiko Ohmoto, Youko Hikasa, Takahiro Sakurai, and Akira Ishida.
