Sagamiya Foods, a tofu producing company of Maebashi city, announced “Big Zam Tofu” as the third tofu of its Gundam series tofu that has included the green, shocking “Zaku Tofu” and the hotpot-intended “Z’Gok Tofu.” The tofu went on sale on June 6.
The “Big Zam Tofu” is the third time the company has collaborated with the anime Mobile Suit Gundam. It is themed after the Principality of Zeon mobile armor Big Zam. Two types of containers have been created after its legs and body. The body has an avocado flavor and the lega are plain.
Company president Junji Torigoe, a Gundam fan, suggested the idea to create interesting tofu, and the project commenced. The first collaborative tofu, “Zaku Tofu,” sold over 1 million units in just two months and became a big success. The release of the “Z’Gok Tofu” and “Zaku Tofu Dessert” last winter brought the cummulative sales of the series past 2.6 million units.
Taking a line from Commander Dozle, Torigoe fulfilled the wish of Zeon by saying, “At the dawn of Big Zam’s mass production, the attack on the Federation will be shown in the blink of an eye!”
With such deep fastidiousness, small quantities of soybeans from the Odessa region, which shares its name with a strategic location in the anime, are being used in the collaborative tofu.
At Gundam Front Tokyo in Odaiba, an event was held with Shuuichi Ikeda (Char Aznable) and model Natsuki Kato participating. They sampled the new tofu to share their thoughts. Kato exclaimed that it was creamy and mild and Shuuichi stated that it would go well with alcohol.
The “Big Zam Tofu” is now available at supermarkets throughout Kanto and online.
