“Smile” by Ikimono-Gakari Chosen as Opening Theme for Latest “Pokémon” Film!

The opening theme for the film Pokémon Best Wishes! The Movie: ExtremeSpeed Genesect: Mewtwo's Awakening that will be releasing in theaters throughout Japan on July 13 has been decided.

The song “Smile” by the J-pop band Ikimono-Gakari will be used. It’s a bright, positive song appropriate for Pokémon. It’s possible to say that Ikimono-Gakari, who have received vast support in Japan, is an ideal choice for Pokémon’s world-wide fame.

The members of Ikimono-Gakari commented the following in regard to the collaboration.

Yoshiki Mizuno: I think that there is a wonderfulness to completely and utterly acting like a fool to get someone to smile or be happy, and I wanted to connect that in the song. I wrote the song while thinking about that.

Hotaka Yamashita: I think it is a great honor for our song to be used as the theme song for such a world-famous film.

Kiyoe Yoshioka: I hope that the world of Pokémon and its charming and brave characters come through in the song “Smile” to all who hear it.

On July 10, the “Smile” CD single will release. The first editions will include one limited “Pokémon Tretta” card, the first of such a promotion. Details on the “Pokémon Tretta” card will be released at a later date.
