The movie 009 Re:Cyborg will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on May 22. It’s been announced that the 2D Blu-ray version of the movie will utilize a new technology called “Master Grade Video Coding.” Due to this, it’s now possible to enjoy the movie in the same extremely high resolution as the theater version.
Blu-ray movies are typically recorded in 24-bit gradation. Now, with Panasonic’s “Master Grade Video Coding,” unique bit expansion data is included on the disc that allows for the implementation of a maximum of 36-bit gradients during movies. With hardware that supports this new technology, the Blu-ray movie is able to retain the same smoothness and level of detail as the theater version.
A full lineup of bonus items has also been prepared for the releases. The deluxe edition Blu-ray Box will come with a an entirely new, non-serialized manga from Ishimori Production that spans the 50 year gap from the original work to the movie. The jacket for the Blu-ray and the front cover of the manga feature the same illustration. This is also good for comparing the CG characters to the original hand drawn ones.
Also included is a 112-page production note called “009 Re:Animation” which takes a behind the scenes look at the production of the anime, as well as a 32-page book called “009 Re:Creation” which explains the mysteries hidden in the movie. The video disc will include over two hours of making-of content and promotional content.
The regular edition Blu-ray will come in a digipak with an included 23-page booklet, as well as two types of audio commentaries and a collection of trailers for the movie. The price of the Blu-ray Box is 10,290 yen, the regular Blu-ray is 6,090 yen, and the DVD is 5,040 yen (all prices include tax).
