On April 11, Namco Bandai Games released the latest news on the download-only PSP game Super Robot Wars: Operation Extend. New to the series are Mobile Police Patlabor, Mobile Police Patlabor: The Movie, Sgt. Frog, Zoids, and other works which are all shown in the many newly revealed screenshots depicting battle scenes. The game will be available only as a download, another first for the series, and will be released this summer.
Anticipation is building to see how mecha like Ingram Unit-1/2, God Keron, and Shield Liger, which differ from the traditional robots that have been introduced in the series so far, will be implemented in Operation Extend.
The game system in Operation Extend uses an updated version of the system from Super Robot Wars Neo. The tactics map is no longer displayed as a square, rather it is a circle that encompasses a 360 degree area around units that allows units to move freely. Additional updates include the ability to fire at a high-angle to shoot over obstacles, as well as accuracy rate bonuses when ally units encircle an enemy. Additionally, more tactical options have been added.
