“Domino’s App feat. Hatsune Miku” is a Blast from Initial Startup to the Final Bite of Pizza

The TOM editorial team recently tried using the previously introduced iPhone app “Domino’s App feat. Hatsune Miku” to order a pizza. Here’s what happened.

On a certain day in April, TOM held a party at our Tokyo office. Since it was a party, naturally we had to order pizza, so we downloaded the “Domino’s App feat. Hatsune Miku” to give it a try.

When we booted up the app, we heard Miku’s familiar voice melodically sing “Domino’s Pizza!” Even though it only lasted about 10 seconds, it had our hearts racing in anticipation! Not being able to get enough of hearing her sweet voice, we closed the app and started it back up countless times, but let’s keep that between us.

We first pushed the order button and entered a name and address. Then, we confirmed our address on the map and were surprised to see Miku appear at our location. What a detailed technique, Domino’s! We couldn’t help but smile at this cute touch.

Finally it was time to choose which pizza to order. We were stuck on deciding between a 2-topping pizza and a 4-topping pizza, but we ended up deciding on the seasonal special “Milky Mille-Feuille and Spring Half & Half.” The second we hit the confirm button, Miku appeared once again. The app was truly loaded with Miku.

The tedium of waiting for your pizza to arrive after you place the order is usually mind-numbing, but with this app, it was okay. While waiting, we were able to hear Miku sing while compulsively checking the status of our order every 30 seconds. We were able to see in real time when the pizza was being cooked and when it was on its way. It’s not often said, but the waiting was actually enjoyable.

Finally, the pizza arrived at our office. We were delighted to see that because we ordered our pizza through the Miku app, it came in a Miku-inspired box. For some strange reason, when we opened our Miku pizza box and gazed at the pizza, it looked and smelled more delicious than usual. Once we finished photographing the box and pizza, it was an all out free-for-all as we all crowded around to claim our piece. The office was in complete silence as we all scarfed down our delicious pizza.

So what’s the bottom line? Ordering pizza using the “Domino’s App feat. Hatsune Miku” was a blast. Getting to enjoy pizza and Miku at the same time was a fun experience that was vastly different from the norm. Using the app, it’s clear to see that Domino’s put a lot of thought and detail into so that customers would enjoy it. From starting up the app to the last bite of pizza, Hatsune Miku fans will thoroughly enjoy the experience. After our experience with it, we earnestly hope that it is broadened worldwide so that Miku fans everywhere can enjoy it.
