Anime based on games are increasing as the social game market picks up steam. Zettai Bouei Leviathan is one such anime that started as a social game, and began airing on TV Tokyo Network 6 on April 6, 2013.
The title is a social card game managed by GREE with a release planned around the same time as the anime in spring 2013. This is the first attempt to release a game simultaneously with an anime, so it is being watched as a new case model for combining anime and social games.
The card game features fairies, dragons and other fantasy creatures who turn into beautiful young girls. The story involves Leviathan, a girl of the dragon clan, who meets up with Bahamut, Jormungand, and the fairy Syrup, and faces off against a foe threatening the world. It follows the new friends as they form close bonds, overcome adversity, and continue to grow in their struggle against their nemesis.
The staff includes director Kenichi Yatagai, who lent his hand to such series as the Tenchi Muyo! OVA and Doujin Work. Please Teacher's Yasunori Ide is in charge of series composition and Takaharu Ookuma, known for Kotoura-san, is doing character design.
