On March 27, an exhibit opened in commemoration of the movie Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods on the eighth floor of Takashimaya. The exhibit, titled “Toriyama Akira: The World of Dragon Ball,” will be held until April 15.

On the morning the exhibit opened, a commemoration ceremony took place. Making an appearance at the ceremony was the voice actress Masako Nozawa, who voices Son Goku, Son Gohan, and Son Goten, as well as the director of Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, Masahiro Hosoda.

At the ceremony, Nozawa gave a congratulatory speech, saying, “This is an exciting exhibit to see even for someone like me who is surrounded by Dragon Ball on a daily basis.” This was followed by the opening of a Kusu ball that looked like one of the dragon balls. As a surprise, mini dragon balls burst out of the Kusu ball when it was opened, to which Nozawa shouted, “I want to take one home with me!” as she picked one up, grinning from ear to ear.

At the press conference, Nozawa and Hosoda each gave an inside scoop on the movie. Hosoda conveyed his thoughts on the movie, saying, “After the earthquake, I wanted to make the children of Japan smile again, and I talked with Akira Toriyama.” At the preview for the movie, Nozawa talked proudly about Toriyama’s evaluation of it, which he said was “much more interesting than [he] thought it would be.”

Nozawa also talked excitedly once she saw the over 200 original manuscripts of Dragon Ball manga on display at the exhibit, saying, “They have been so well preserved! I still haven’t received a copy of one of these, so I think I’ll take this chance and grab one!” Being drawn in by each page, there simply wasn’t enough time to see them all. Even still, the exhibit got Goku’s seal of approval, making it the best exhibit for fans.

Dragon Ball continues to be loved the world over. One only need look at this exhibit to find the answer to the question of why it is loved so much. The exhibit was packed with a sea of smiles as fans gazed at the original manuscripts, production documents, and other goods on display from this ever-shining series. Fans surely can’t wait to see what’s next for Dragon Ball.
